About These Guidebooks

"For the following reasons, I believe the books featured on this website combine the very best elements of what a travel guide should be:

I do all the research and updating myself.
It's necessary to use the telephone and Internet for some fact-checking, but for the most part, I'm on the road in Canada, hiking the trails, staying at the accommodations, and eating at the restaurants I review and recommend in these books.

I travel incognito.
All recommendations I make are from personal experience. These books contain no advertising, nor are payments accepted for inclusion.

I live in Canada.
The production of a new edition doesn't entail a trip to a far off land, where every day on the road costs myself or my publisher money. There is no starting point for me to work on a new edition. Each book is an ever-evolving project punctuated with a deadline for a new edition every two years.

Avalon Travel Publishing.
San Francisco-based Avalon Travel Publishing has been in the guidebook business for over a quarter of a century, and has over 300 titles currently in print. The publisher allows the author's voice to show through, while also providing an organizational structure that allows readers to easily navigate the book, detailed maps, and a comprehensive index."

WHY IS IT DIFFERENT TO OTHER TRAVEL SITES?

This website has been developed using extracts from printed guidebooks. Rather than comprising nothing more than links to other sites or pages filled with advertisements, the text has been researched and written by a travel writer.

We don't pretend that you will find everything you need here, but hopefully this website will prove to be a good place to start planning your trip to Canada, while also giving you a taste of the guidebooks that have helped tens of thousands of readers make the most of their time and money while traveling in Canada.
